Christmas is Coming

Christmas is coming,
the geese are getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat
If you haven’t got a penny,
a ha’penny will do
If you haven’t got a ha’penny,
then God bless you!

“Christmas is Coming” is a Christmas carol traditionally sung in the round. It’s origin is unknown. The traditional version of this song uses the melody of the English dance tune “Country Gardens,” but other melodies exist. Edith Nesbit Bland (1858 – 1924) composed a popular tune for the lyrics. “Christmas is Coming” is considered one of the more popular songs for caroling.

Hmm, how sad to be singing this particular song amidst the widespread poverty and homelessness in the world.

Merry Christmas.
